The A-B-C of Scaling in the Age of AI
Three non-negotiables for scaling without burning out in 2026
Back to the essence
Earlier this week, I stepped onto a virtual stage in front of a room full of high-capacity founders. The topic was “How to Use AI to Work Smarter and Scale Faster”.
My initial plan was simple: walk them through what’s happening in AI and how to leverage it to scale.
But as I prepped, something kept tugging.
“If this were my last speaking engagement ever… what would I want to leave this room with?”
That question pulled me out of trend mode and into truth.
So instead of tools or tech hacks, I offered what I truly believe will make the difference for every business who wants to scale in today’s world.
A new lens.
The A-B-C of Scaling in the Age of AI
But first, the root.
I was raised in the Sufi mystic tradition.
Then, decades of martial arts brought Taoism, Zen, and Confucian thought into my bones.
Different traditions. Same truth:
Real growth doesn’t come from adding.
It comes from stripping away what is fluff (which comes in diffeernt forms) and returning to the essence.
In Sufism, the concept of Asl is that return to the foundation.
In Taoism, it ties to Wu Wei, effortless action.
In Zen, Shoshin, the beginner’s mind.
In business, it looks like recalibrating how you think, decide, and lead your business and people so you can scale with more grace in this fast changing world.
So I shared this with the room and now with you:
The A-B-C of Scaling in the Age of AI.
A = AI Literacy
Not to become a machine.
Not to outsource your magic.
But to understand the new landscape you’re navigating.
AI literacy is not as much about knowing every tool as it is about understanding its impact on your business and community, at the macro level.
It’s also about:
understanding what AI truly is and its potential
the impact and opportunities it’s creating for your business
how it’s changing the operating reality of the people/market/community you lead.
Innovation has always decided who leads.
Ray Dalio puts it plainly in The Changing World Order:
When technology shifts, so does power. So does wealth.
So no, you don’t need to be an expert.
But you do need to become fluent so you don’t misread the room, your market, or the opportunities or threats right in front of you.
Your team is already shifting how they work.
Your audience is interacting with AI daily.
If you want to lead them, you need to see what they’re stepping into.
The 1% Shift:
Questions to Ask:
Where in my business does AI have the potential to actually create margin or capacity?
What decisions am I delaying because I don’t fully understand the tech?
Are we using AI to multiply what already works, or just playing with tools?
Where is the team bottlenecked in ways smart automation could remove?
What beliefs am I holding about AI that might no longer be true?
Ideas to Implement:
Pick one workflow you already own and explore one automation or AI layer to remove friction.
Audit your calendar for repetitive tasks and research AI tools that could replace or shorten them.
Assign someone (or yourself) as “AI-aware” each month and report back key findings.
Join one founder-specific AI conversation each month to keep your lens sharp without overwhelm.
Bookmark 2 or 3 human-curated AI sources to stay strategic, not scattered.
Use this prompt weekly in Perplexity or Gemini:
“Act as a trusted AI advisor to a founder of [describe your business and audience].
Share the top 3 to 5 most important AI-related developments from the past 7 days that are most relevant to:
My industry
The audience I serve
My role as a founder
For each:
What happened (in plain English)
Why it matters to me
What decision or shift I should consider
Keep it strategic. Skip hype. Focus on signal.”
B = Bandwidth
This one’s personal.
I’ve supported high-capacity founders inside 7-, 8-, and 9-figure ecosystems for 15+ years.
They’re holding what most can’t, but many of them are making high-leverage decisions with low-leverage capacity.
Bandwidth isn’t about skill or energy.
It’s about what’s actually available in your mental operating system to think, decide, and lead.
If your mind is full, your strategy won’t be as powerful.
If your calendar is cluttered, your next-level idea won’t have space to drop in.
Last month, I watched a founder spend 3 weeks thinking about a decision that should’ve taken 20 minutes.
The cost wasn’t just time. It was the compound effect of delayed action across her business.
Scaling in a fast world requires space. Non negotiable.
The 1% Shift:
Questions to Ask:
What’s still on my plate that should’ve been closed, delegated, or deleted?
Where am I the bottleneck, and do I actually need to be?
What meetings, tasks, or decisions still rely on me that shouldn’t?
Where is the team asking for clarity that the system should be providing?
What would it look like to make my business feel 10x lighter?
Ideas to Implement:
Run a “bandwidth audit” for 7 days and track where time and energy are leaking.
Identify 1 or 2 micro-frictions (approvals, follow-ups) and remove or redesign them.
Create a “Not Mine” list: tasks you exit within 30 days.
Replace recurring meetings with async updates wherever possible.
Pick one internal process that drains you. Redesign it for clean handoffs and fewer touches.
C = Community
Here’s what most people aren’t naming yet:
AI is scaling a whole lot of messy noise.
Agents, bots and AI generated content are flooding the interwebs.
Everyone’s pulling from the same sources using the same LLMs,
The same prompt libraries,
The same recycled inputs.
That means differentiation won’t come from any of that (have you noticed how much online content is starting to sound the same?
Growth and scaling now come from nuance.
And nuance lives in rooms with other humans (in person or virtual).
The biggest shifts I've experienced this year didn't come from courses or content.
They came from voice notes with peers. Off-the-record conversations. Proximity to people who revealed moves I wouldn't have found in any AI output.
Here's what AI can't replicate:
Strategic intros
Unscripted moments
That dinner where you learn your new acquaintance's friend is selling their business and it's exactly what you need for your next-level scaling
Off-the-record conversations that give you the real story behind someone's success, not just what they post online
My biggest opportunities this year came from conversations, not campaigns.
A friend shared with me this week how he went to a friend’s wedding and came back with Series A funding for the company he works for. That's the power of proximity and community.
It happens in DMs, voice notes, or over coffee.
AI can't give you that. Focus here and it will accelerate your scale.
The 1% Shift:
Questions to Ask:
What’s my actual vision for scale, and who do I want around me for it?
What relationships feel high-trust, high-value, and energizing right now?
Where am I waiting for the “perfect” community instead of curating the one I need?
When’s the last time I received game-changing insight from someone I trust?
Am I spending as much time building proximity as I am optimizing systems that keep me behind a screen?
The TL-DR
In a world moving faster than anyone can predict, your advantage won’t come from knowing more or adding more strategies to your plate.
It’ll come from protecting your ability to see clearly, take decisive action, and surround yourself with the right humans.
Check your A-B-C.
Return to the essence and scale from there.
